Klamath algae: Be aware of its pros and cons

Klamath Blue-Green Algae or Aphanizomenon Flos Aquae (AFA) is being touted as the No. 1 brain food. It contains more chlorophyll, protein and Vitamin B12 than any other food we know. Chlorophyll is plants’ pigment, which when combined with the alkaline waters of Klamath Lake along with chlorophyll, turns blue-green algae into extremely energetic organisms. Your vibrations increase when you consume these algae because it comes with solar energy.

A lot has been said about its wonderful abilities to help the brain with its daily processes, and that it increases mental stamina, memory, creativity, problem-solving abilities, etc. This happens due to the algae releasing substances that encourage metabolic functions which help the nervous system work better. However, one also needs to exercise caution while consuming these algae products, which could sometimes contain contaminants, leading to liver damage.

Precautions: Children should keep away from but blue-green algae products, being more sensitive to it. When you come across Klamath algae that are contaminated, desist from taking it as it will lead to nausea, pain in the stomach, liver damage, vomiting, thirst, weakness, thirst, shock, rapid heartbeat and finally death.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Since not much is known about the effects of blue-green algae on pregnancy and breast-feeding, it’s best to keep away from it.

Auto-immune diseases: These comprise Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Lupus, Pemphigus Vulgaris, among others. In these cases, blue-green algae might stimulate the immune system to be more active, leading to auto-immune diseases. If you display any of these conditions and symptoms, you should stop taking blue-green algae.

Phenylketonuria: Spirulina, a species of blue-green algae, contains a chemical called Phenylalanine, which is known to worsen the condition called Phenylketonuria. So, if you suffer from Phenylketonuria, stop taking blue-green algae products.
